2013 Doheny Mansion Public Tours | | | | Event Description - Doheny Mansion Public Tour | Experience the grandeur of early Los Angeles with a visit to the Doheny Mansion located on the downtown campus of Mount. St. Mary’s College on Chester Place. Chester Place was an exclusive gated community of Victorian mansions in the early 1900’s and home to oil baron Edward L. and Carrie Estelle Doheny for almost 60 years.
The Doheny home is a Gothic Renaissance style Victorian mansion and was designed by architects Theodore Augustus Eisen and Sumner P. Hunt in 1899. The mansion boasts a marble-pillared Great Hall, the Pompeian Room with imported Siena marble and a Tiffany iridescent glass dome. The home contains furniture copied by permission of the Italian government from Pompeian furniture in a Rome museum and many of the original furnishings in its other opulent rooms.
Docent-let groups are limited to 15 people. The tour starts in the former home of Edward Doheny's son, Ned, and includes the history of Chester Place, the Doheny family and other prominent residents of the neighborhood. Please wear comfortable walking shoes!
The cost is $20 per person. You must pay with check or credit card call to reserve your space . Please call to inquire about senior, group and MSMC affiliate discounts. Reservations are a must!
Space is limited. No children under 12 years of age.

Go to Adams Blvd. and turn left. Travel about 3 blocks to St. James Place and turn left. Turn right on St. James Park and proceed into the campus. Your tour will begin in the light green mansion, number 10.
From the Harbor Freeway (110), exit on Adams Blvd. offramp; go two blocks straight to Adams Blvd. and turn right (west). Travel 1/2 mile, and go right on St. James Place. Turn right onto St. James Park and proceed into the campus. Your tour will begin in the light green mansion, number 10.
